How we count

Every number we show you is counted from what happened on TLK. None is estimated.

This page defines each number on your dashboard and on your page settings. If we show a number, it was counted the way this page says.

The window

Unless a number says otherwise, it covers the last 30 days, up to and including today. Days run on Sydney time.

When a number is hidden

We hide a number when it is zero, or too small to mean much. We never show a guess in its place.

  • Searches in your category: hidden below 5. A smaller count can be one person searching a few times.
  • Buyer reviews open: hidden below 1. One open review is a real buyer.
  • Other claimed businesses nearby: hidden below 3. With fewer, the number would point at particular businesses.
  • Your own figures: hidden below 1, which means hidden at zero.

Your page

  • Page views. Visits by people to your TLK page. Search engine crawlers and other automated readers are not counted.
  • Shown in TLK searches. The number of times your business appeared in a TLK search result or category page.
  • Visits from search and AI. Page views that arrived from a search engine or an AI assistant. We tell where a visit came from by the website that sent it.

Search engines we count: Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo.

AI assistants we count: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, You.com.

Some AI assistants open links without saying where they came from. When the link carries the assistant's name, we count it. Otherwise the visit counts as direct.

When an AI assistant reads your page on its own, that is not a visit. When a person follows its answer to your page, that is.

Since your profile went live. Page views per day after your Business Profile was published, compared with the same number of days before. We show it once the profile has been live 7 days, and only when there were at least 10 views before.

Your category

  • Searches. TLK searches that asked for your category, and your state where it says so. Each search counts once, however many businesses it showed.
  • Buyer reviews open. Buyers reviewing your category right now, in your state where it says so. A review counts until it closes.
  • Other claimed businesses nearby. Businesses in your category and state that have claimed their page. Your own business is not counted.

Buyer reviews on your dashboard

We list reviews in the categories on your page, and any review you have been put forward for. Closed reviews stay for 60 days.

We show the buyer's size, state and timing. We never show a buyer's name before you have been chosen and have confirmed.

What we keep

We keep counts by business, day and source. We do not keep who visited, their address or what they typed.

When we put a number in an email, we record the number, what it covered and when we worked it out. So any number we send can be checked.
